Why multiple images of our flowers?

At Daylilies of North Carolina we are endeavoring to show multiple pictures of each flower on "individual cultivar pages." The picture above shows the cultivar page for H. 'Redefining Genetics' with 18 different images so that you can see the flower under different lighting, blooming, and environmental conditions. We do not want to post one "cover girl" picture that can misrepresent our flowers.

Hemerocallis ‘Runner Dude’ (Baxter, 2013)

Hemerocallis ‘Runner Dude’ is a 100% polymerous 2014 introduction.

H. 'Runner Dude' is my star polymerous introduction for 2014. Let's just call it HUGE!! I registered it at 8½" but after some of the heavy rains during the 2013 season many blooms exceeded 11 inches. My polymerous loving daylily friends, Bill & Joyce Reinke, visited the garden this year and picked H. 'Runner Dude' as a "must have" flower. It was my honor to gift them the first plant of this cultivar to leave the garden.

These big blooms display nicely on tall 34" scapes beginning in the early mid-season and continuing well past the peak season on reblooming scapes. Don't let the bright yellow pollen fool you... of course, H. 'Runner Dude' is pollen fertile. Hybridizers will want to hit every bloom. Pod setting was much easier in 2012 with the early season and cooler nights that contrasted the 2013 season's high heat and humidity.

Are you wondering where the size comes from? H. 'Runner Dude' is a cross of my own H. 'Redefining Genetics' and Raleigh hybridizing legend John Lambert's H. 'Caldera' with H. 'Redefining Genetics' being the pod parent. A very hardy semi-evergreen that will probably go dormant in northern environs. I look for this plant to grow extremely well across the entire country.

Describing a flower's color(s) can be tricky sometimes but I venture this specimen to be blended cranberry and raspberry with a darker feathered eyezone and deep yellow throat. These diploid blooms also carry a nice fragrance. H. 'Runner Dude' is an exceptional daylily and an exceptional polymer with incredible garden presence for the daylily aficionado, the garden connoisseur, and the hybridizer extraordinare.
