SEVENTY-SIX TROMBONES

SEVENTY-SIX TROMBONES, E/M, Tet Unusual Form – Cascade/Crispate, 42 x 8, 1-2 lats. 15+ buds. Pod and pollen fertile.

(ONLY IN AMERICA x HURRICANE BOB)

I don’t know why bright colors make me hear music, but they do. This cherry red baby gets me thinking about Professor Harold Hill and his marching band. I mainly see those incredibly bright cerise uniforms that he wants to sell to the good folks of River City. I hear the blare of the SEVENTY-SIX TROMBONES in the big parade as the band struts down Main Street.

If you look at the sepals you'll see the piping that edges the jackets and runs down the seams of the trousers. The green throat is the raucous “tan-tarah” of the horns. Am I reading too much into this? Put your ear up close to the blossom and see what you hear.

SEVENTY-SIX TROMBONES is a stand-out in the garden. It sounds strange, but it looks across taller than it really is. Before I measured it I thought it was 50 inches at least. That’s garden presence for you.
