SCARPIA

SCARPIA, Tet, Unusual Form – Cascade. 40 x 8 ½, 9-10 buds. Pollen fertile.

[{(ELEGANT FINALE x MOJAVE SUNSET) x BRIGHT SUNSET} x Tet. SATAN’S CURLS]

SCARPIA is the lustful and fiendish villain in Puccini’s, Tosca, and this blossom looks like one mean dude. But, hey, you’ll love it. I have hesitated to introduce this plant because it has only 9 or 10 buds, but if the photo doesn’t tell you why I have finally relented, nothing I can say will make you understand. It’s a shocker!

The deep burgundy offers a splendid contrast to the amazing green throat that runs out further on the sepals than the petals. The long narrow segments typify the Cascade form falling well below the “V” at the bottom of the blossom where the segments separate.

For what it's worth, Paul Limmer grows SCARPIA 50" tall and gets 1 lat + the "Y" with up to 14 buds. He's only 60 miles away, but he's one zone warmer.

The plant has Tet. SATAN’S CURLS in it. SC is a southern plant and it might be that this cultivar will produce more buds in a southern garden.

But any way you grow it it is a real head turner. It never fails to stop the tour, and I felt I had to introduce it..
