MEPHISTO WALTZ is a very consistent pinched crispate of superb color quality. It opens early displaying intense chartreuse in a lemon green throat that runs to vibrant deep burgundy red sepals and petals.
The blossom is quite open which allows the green in the throat to be seen from a great distance. The petals are seriously pinched, and the dazzling yellow green travels almost half way out the quilled and hooked sepals..
Altogether an excellent example of a well balanced pinched and curled crispate.
When I first saw this daylily I immediately thought of Franz Lizst’s fiery and dramatic work MEPHISTO WALTZ . The name seemed to express the emotions that the brilliant colors conveyed.
MEPHISTO WALTZ is very sunfast and on the hottest days the throat ends up a rich gold.
It is both pod and pollen fertile and is the parent of many of my best kids.
