MADAM BESSEMER

Seedling x Tet SPIDER MIRACLE

Variable Crispate 34” x 8 ½” Tet, Dor, Mid. 4-5 way branching 25+ buds.

A rich velvety dark burgundy UFo, with a deep intense green throat; MADAM BESSEMER is a striking flower; named for the great furnaces that blast pig iron into steel.

It curls and twists and sometimes blooms in a very balanced pose with its sepals outstretched and all three petals pinched. The dark red pistil and stamens add to the drama. It is a very pleasing thing to see.

When I first saw this flower I was instantly reminded of some huge hot and glowing smelter. I could almost hear the roar as the molten metal poured out of the great converter into molds. I saw the steel being hammered into gears and pistons, driving the industrial might of the greatest nation on earth – railroads stretching from coast to coast. I saw …

Too much? I don't know. This flower really has a dynamic quality that can spark the imagination. It’s very nice in the garden too.

MADAM BESSEMER blooms on sturdy scapes for a good long season. It holds up in the sun and stays colorfast all day.

If you put your ear close to it, you too may hear the roar of the steel works.
