ERLO
ERLO Tet., Unusual Form (Consistent Pinched Crispate) 38 x7 ½ , 2 lats + “Y” 15+ buds Pod and Pollen fertile
(PRIMAL SCREAM Syb. x KING GEORGE Sdlg.)
If one is lucky in life one meets the right teacher at the right time. I was lucky to have met Erlo when I needed him. Or, if you believe as I believe, you feel that “luck” had nothing to do with it. He was a great teacher a strong support and he was my Spiritual Father.
ERLO is named for him and is my bow to his memory.
It is lovely flower. The pinching only gets better as the season wears on and the temperature rises. I love the muted pumpkin color and the slight flare at the tip of the petals. The “dry brush” blush on at the throat of the petals is echoed in the sepals, and the throat funnels down to a tiny green dot around the stamens. Many have commented on the uniqueness of the color in this form. It is softer than my other introductions of eyed oranges.
I have to say that KING GEORGE should still be used by those who want sturdy pinched crispates. It is a beautiful flower in its own rite and it throws pinched crispates.
ERLO is a great example.
