REIGNING PURPLE $25 df
Lovett, Dan 30” Sev EM Dip 7.5” Re Wine Purple self, Unusual Form.
[(Indian Giver x Uniquely Different) x Yabba Dabba Doo] x Purple Many Faces
This flower won Best Seedling in the Mid-Carolina Daylily Show in 2004. It was the first time in the Club’s history of over 10 years of daylily shows that a seedling made it to the head table. It also won the Best Seedling contest in the 2005 Region 15 regional tour of gardens.
The unique trait of this daylily is it’s clear color and clean, almost pristine appearance. At 7.5” and crispate form, it is well branched and multiplies well, which provides ample buds during bloom season. It is moderately pod fertile. Pollen is good. I have used it heavily in hybridizing and it has given some good results. (See D24 in Dan’s Selected seedlings)
The Pod Parent of REIGNING PURPLE has the garden name of “Different Indian” and is the mamma of many of my selected seedlings. It is a wonderful parent, very vigorous and very fertile. It has a nice 5 ½” deep purple flower. It has everything you want in a daylily except that it is just not unique or exceptional in bloom quality. But it has given me exceptionally good offspring and I keep going back to it because it I know that it will give me nice kids. (See D02, D03, D06 & D09 in Dan’s Selected seedlings).
