This is another “late arrival”. It didn’t show its stuff until it’s second bloom season. It is my belief that spiders/unusual forms take longer than other daylilies to establish themselves and display their optimum performance. This is usually the case with a new or relocated spider in the garden. Frequently they don’t hit their stride until the second year.
When I decided to keep this one for evaluation it was one of my last selections. I flag seedlings all during the bloom season, take many digital pictures, and then compare and categorize them from “most desirable” to “least desirable”. I transplant them from the seedling bed in that order. When my space for selected seedling is full I stop and any remaining flagged seedlings are usually history. This one barely made it. But as so often happens, it came on strong the second bloom season. Conversely, some never regain their initial status after the first year .
This is a big, colorful flower that has wonderful plant habit. Its scapes are tall and erect. They present the flowers very impressively, especially in a clump. It is very vigorous and quite pod fertile and multiplies rapidly.
