2007 DAYLILY INTRODUCTIONS

Alcee Favaron

(J. Goudeau  Sdg# 24-7-03) 5”, 32”, Eve, ML, Re

Alcee Favaron is an unusual color of  magenta  which catches your eye since the color is so different from anything in commerce. Standing well above the foliage you just cannot help but use it’s pollen on everything in the garden. Alcee Favaron is a great pollen parent but a reluctant pod parent. Pods are possible and have been set in the full sun in late June and early July. Four way branching Bud Count 18 – 20.
SF price $200 Very Limited

Nekkid Woman Frying Bacon

(J. Goudeau sdg#6-8-1-03)  5”, 26”, Semi, M, Slfr, Re

I was going to save this one for next year but decided it was time to add another flower to the Nekkid Woman series. Nekkid Woman Frying Bacon is one of the best rose pinks with a gold edge I have seen anywhere. Fertile both ways, she is sure to add a little sizzle to your hybridizing program. Branching and bud count are moderate but the “pretty face” more than makes up for it.
SF price  $200

Christine Tuminello LeGrand

(J. Goudeau sdg# 28-15-03) 5.25”, 30”, Eve, M, Slfr, Re

Christine Tuminello LeGrand is named for the Hemerocallis Study Club member John LeGrand’s wife of 38 years. She was taken prematurely from her family after a courageous battle with cancer. It was an honor to name one of my introductions after someone so special. CTL is an elegant flower with great scapes, nice bud count, and good spacing. I find it strange that we work so hard to get flowers so ruffled they cannot open yet we use conversions to try to give our new introductions a “diploid” look. This cream white with a pink blush and a dazzling deeper pink edge is a hybridizer’s dream come true. Good pollen and pod parent with a bud count of 22-25.
SF price $150

Coyote Ugly

(J. Goudeau sdg# 02-05-11) 5” 28” Eve, ML, Re, Slfr

On my first trip back from Larry Grace’s I was crossing flowers in the back seat of my truck. I just could not help myself. Coyote Ugly is a creamy yellow with a heavy gold edge. It is from one of two seedpods I set during that drive. If you are looking for a plant that is a good pod parent, this is it. JT Davis is in the parentage of this flower twice.
SF price $75.00

Blackwater Lavender Delight

(J. Goudeau sdg# 00-4-27-4) 5.25”, 27”, Semi, ML, Fr, Re

Blackwater Lavender Delight is an interesting shade of lavender washed with mulberry jam. The mulberry   seems to drip from the petal edges. A mulberry halo is evident around the bright yellow to green throat. A honey gold trim tops off this appetizing flower. Four and five way branching with 18—20 perfectly spaced buds. I have set pods in late June and early July without the benefit of shade.
SF $125.00

Blackwater Snowflake

(J. Goudeau sdg# 5-10-16-03) 4.75”, 26”, Semi, M, Slfr, Re

Blackwater Snowflake  is another good parent for bagel style flowers. This perfectly round white diamond has just a touch of pink. The pink blush seems to fade as the temperatures rise leaving an almost pure white canvas on which to paint. The emerald green throat enhances this flowers presence. Branching and bud count are moderate.
SF $100.00

Bordering On Weird

(J. Goudeau sdg# 25-20) 4.25”, 28”, Eve, EM, Re

Bordering on Weird is a (H. ‘Mister Lucky’ x Roses in Snow) x Mister Lucky seedling gives seedlings that makes you scratch your head in wonderment. All the seedlings show some veining. The seedlings are all over the place with some being large, some small, some double, some have a tendency to elongate. If you want to add a touch of weird to your red and orange base seedlings this one may be for you.

Greetings Fellow Gardeners, Collectors, Flower Lovers, and Friends,

2007 is proving to be a busy year. I have had the opportunity to visited many clubs giving slide presentations and entertaining with a little Cajun humor. This has been a year a friendships. I have enjoyed meeting many of you and look forward to meeting many more.

I have finally introduced a flower named after my mentor and friend, Alcee Favaron. Alcee was a tank commander in World War II and served under Patton. He was one of the most interesting people I have ever had the honor of knowing. He was instrumental in my being where I am today in the Daylily community.

There is also another Nekkid Woman in this year’s collection. She has proven to be a great parent for pinks and rose.

The seedlings are the best yet. Just when you think the barking won’t stop, the ugly ducklings get a little rain and some warm weather and the orange flags are as prominent as the flowers.

From a business end, we still have not figured this thing out yet, but we are having fun. We are being asked to donate more and more, which means one of two things, we are putting out some nice flowers or we are easy. I think it a little of both. So, I guess breaking even is not that important. Thanks to the many of you who ordered, bid, purchased and even those of you who sold to us. We look forward to what 2007 has in store.  We enjoy visiting and discussing daylilies, or our favorite subject, our children, Ashley 18, Joseph 13, so feel free to come by, call, or write. Our garden is an AHS Display garden and we hope to view over 20,000 nine month to two year seedlings this spring. This year’s seedling crop is our best by far. You will be able to find pictures of a few of our favorites on the website soon.  We welcome your feedback.  We will be selling seedlings we choose not to introduce or further evaluate. Seedlings will be sold out of the garden and will be priced from $5 - $100 depending on flower and plant habit. Many of those seedlings are crosses made from the latest and greatest available on the market today.

Our goal last year was to reduce the number of cultivars we grow in order to make room to line out our future introductions, which we almost did. We thank everyone for their kind words about our 2006 introductions and hope our 2007 offers are also well received.  A couple are in limited supply, so if you see something you are interested in you may want to order early so you will not be disappointed.  All prices on the general plant listing are for double fans unless indicated as a single fan with an SF.  Plants listed as Display are either very new to our garden or in short supply, but fall delivery may be possible as drop us a line and ask about their availability.

Now for the business part, shipping costs are $8.00 for Priority Mail for the first five plants. Please add .50 for each plant over five. Sorry but only intercontinental shipping only. We do include bonus plants, so please include a list of your favorites and we will do what we can depending on availability and size of the order. Orders are shipped on Mondays via Priority Mail.  If for any reason you are not satisfied with your plants, please contact us immediately upon receipt of your order. We will do everything we can to insure your complete satisfaction. If we cannot resolve an issue we will ask that you return the plants for a complete refund.

Our garden is located in a suburb of Baton Rouge off I-110 northeast of the airport.  Peak bloom usually begins the third week of May.  The garden is open every Saturday morning from mid – May through mid-June except for the weekend of June 15. I do have to preside over the Region 13 meeting.  We welcome visitors at other times, but please call first so we can be here to greet you.  The garden is set up for easy bus access and parking. Many of the beds can be viewed without leaving your vehicle, so if you have someone who is unable to walk a garden this may be a nice treat for them.

Rust was discovered in our garden in the fall of 2001. We do have a vigorous spray program in place in order to try and “control” it but that is no guarantee that the plants are totally rust free. We also dip every plant that is shipped in Pro Tec and have had favorable feedback from our customers.

Please consider joining the American Hemerocallis Society. Through daylilies and the different organizations and societies, we have been fortunate to meet and make many friends.

Happy Gardening and God Bless,

Joe, Ginger, Ashley and Joseph Goudeau (pronounced Goo Doe)

2006 DAYLILY INTRODUCTIONS

Better Lucky Than Good

(J. Goudeau 5-11-04) Tet, Ev, 32”, M, Re, 5” (h. Mr. Lucky X Grace Seedling)

I have found in life, those that are lucky seem to surpass those with talent. Better Lucky Than Good is a beacon in the garden. When in bloom visitors will cross the garden to get a better view. Better Lucky Than Good is well shaped brilliant orange with a tomato red eye that stands well above the dark evergreen foliage. The most intriguing aspect of this flower is red veining that extends from the eye out to the petal edges. This trait is passed on to the seedlings. Much like it’s parent, Mr. Lucky,

Better Lucky Than Good is a great performer increasing quickly and blooming throughout the summer months.

Six-Four-Three Double Play

(J Goudeau 6-7-24) (h. King Kahuna x Indy Frosted Pink) Dip, Semi, 24”, M, Re, 5”

Six Four Three Double Play is the most common double play in baseball. The shortstop fields the ball, throws it to the second baseman who then relays it to the first baseman getting two outs on one hit. Thanks to Charles Douglas for giving me the idea for the name.

Six Four Three Double Play is a light salmon pink whose edges become lighter with the heat of the day. The dark rose eye and large yellow to green throat really sets this double apart. 90% double, moderate bud count and branching

Blackwater Washout

(J. Goudeau 25-42-03) (Grace Seedling LG41 x Tet Lavender Blue Baby) x Sdg, 32”, 5”, Ev, ML, Fr, Re,

I have to thank Larry Grace for allowing me to purchase seedlings from his hybridizing program. This is from a Grace seedling I have assigned garden numbered LG41.

Blackwater Washout has been a great parent for giving me washed eyes in my purple and red programs. Blackwater Washout is a violet purple with a washed eye and just a thread of gold on the edges. The yellow to green throat seems to jump out at you. The flowers are well placed on with four way branching and a respectable bud count of 20.

Lavender Flirtation

(G. Goudeau 02-7-17-18) (Carpenter, Unending Melody seedling x J. Goudeau Seedling.) Tet, 28, 5, Ev, M, Re,

Ginger’s first introduction Lavender Fascination is from a seedling from Jack Carpenter’s great hybridizing program. Ginger returned home from Jack’s with a $100 seedling from Unending Melody. Her reasoning was, she has never met a lavender or purple she did not like.J Lavender Flirtation is a well-shaped lavender with an unusual violet purple eye and edge. A gold wire edge accents this flower. This has been a favorite pod and pollen parent of Ginger for the past three years. I have seen her set so many pods that the scape will wilt from the weight. 3 way branching 18-20 bud count.

Song of Praise

(J.Goudeau 4-13-2) Tet,Semi, 24”, 4” M, Re, Fr (L.Grace Tet Ultimate Perfection sdg) x sdg

Song of Praise is a polychrome with a mixture of yellow, orange and peach. The coloring will change with the heat of the day sometimes appearing more pink and other times more yellow. There is an ever so slight halo and edge of darker peach and a huge yellow to green throat that extends out into the petal face. The white midribs complete the look of this beautiful flower. Song of Praise is an easy pod parent that will set pods on even the hottest of days. Bud count and branching are moderate.

Daddy’s Heart

(J. Goudeau 01-6-2-17)) semi, 24” ML, Re 3.25”

I do not know if I will ever have a flower that deserves to be named for my daughter Ashley, but every time I see this one bloom, it makes me think of her. Daddy’s Heart is another good garden performer that increases quickly and blooms and blooms and blooms. She is a soft yellow with a rose halo and slight rose edge. There is a slight gold trim that circles the entire petal edge.

I believe Daddy’s Heart will perform better in climates where it will recieve some colder temperatures. Bud count is moderate.

2005 DAYLILY INTRODUCTIONS

MYTRIS DUPLANTIS

26” Mre Ev 5” tet (seedling X JT Davis)

Myrtis DuPlantis is a creamy yellow with a slight pink blush. It has a very bubbly gold edge that opens well every morning. Myrtis DuPlantis is a reliable rebloomer and is both pod and pollen fertile. Bud count is 18 – 20.

I am naming my first introduction after a wonderful lady. Mrs. Myrtis is the wife of Region 13’s RVP Elmer DuPlantis. I feel in love with her the first time I met her. She always has a smile and a kiss for those she meets.
Single fan price: $30 S/F

NEKKID WOMAN ON A TRACTOR

16” Ere Ev 5” tet ( seedling x Larry Grace seedling)

Nekkid Woman on a Tractor is a beautiful clear pink with a heavy gold edge. As beautiful as it is most hybridizers would not introduce it because of the low bud count of 9 – 10. Well I have purchased much worse. This is a front row plant with the foliage never getting much taller than 12”.

This one is named after a new daylily friend from Dallas, Texas. I can not wait to get her as a bus captain. She makes me laugh every time we e-mail. She has to be a hoot!
Single fan price: $30 S/F

BETTER LATE THAN NEVER

28” VVL Re Ev 5” tet

This is a garden flower. It is a peachy color with a purple eye and edge with a little touch of gold. Why introduce this one you ask. Well it does not start blooming here till August after everything else is done. It clumps up quickly and puts on a great end of the year show. Better Late Than Never blooms well into October. It is both pollen and pod fertile and it lengthens the bloom period of its seedlings.

This flower will be offered to Region 13 attendees.
